Woodland Cemetery in Swedish “SkogskyrkogÃ¥rden” is Sweden most important architectural cemetery, opened in 1920. It is located in the Old Enskede in Stockholm. The entire facility is regarded as one of the most important works of modern architecture and was taken up in 1994 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 

The cemetery was created 1915-1940 by architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz. The architects were based on natural endowments and created a landscape with sacred feeling with five smaller funeral chapel, of which three are gathered together in the integrated facility Woodland Crematorium. The actual graves are mostly arranged in blocks in the pine forest. There is also a memorial and a monumental mound, and Meditation grove in the open for the placement of funeral urns. The cemetery, with its 100,000 graves largest in the country, in terms of the number of graves. Counting the surface is the second largest, after Kvibergs cemetery. It forms a dividing line in the design of cemeteries across the world. The area is protected as well as a World Heritage National interest for heritage protection according to the Swedish environmental legislation. During the summer months offer regular guided tours of the Stockholm City Museum.
